Odesa Black red wine lable with owl on it

Beykush has chosen the label for its first Odesa Black

Beykush Winery recently put a simple question to its followers: sparrow or owl? The winery is releasing its first Odesa Black, vintage 2025, and two hand-painted bird labels were in the running.

It was close. The owl won with 53 votes to the sparrow's 42.

For Beykush, the result means more than a label. "Beykush" is Turkish for owl. It is the name of the cape where the winery works, and the winery took its name from it. The vineyards sit next to a biosphere reserve, on estuaries where migrating birds stop every spring and autumn, so birds have always been part of the Beykush story. As for the sparrow, the winery says it held on bravely to the end and will surely find a place on a future label.

Odesa Black with the owl label will be released in limited quantities. We plan to bring it to the UK next year, and we'll let you know as soon as it arrives.

While you wait, meet the birds already with us
